Izenpe, Trusted Service Provider of the Basque administrations, will offer new identity services with additional e-signature and authentication mechanisms based on simple Web APIs. To implement these new services, Izenpe has opted for Safelayer technology owing to the innovation, standards compliance and robustness of Safelayer’s solutions.
With the new European regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market, the EU is moving forward with the construction of an electronic identification, authentication and signature infrastructure under the maxim of “trust and convenience” that hopes to achieve widespread uptake by all EU citizens. Izenpe's new Giltza trust service is designed to be a part of this new context.
Unlike current identity infrastructures, which provide "static security and trust", Giltza is an identification service designed to provide "adaptive and convenient security and trust". Giltza’s main characteristics and features include:
- Reliable verification of citizen identity and communication to Izenpe-affiliated service providers.
- New e-signature modes such as remote or Cloud and mobile signing.
- Mobile signing that permits strong identification from any device (e.g., a PC/desktop) without the need for additional software or hardware.
- Simple Web API based on current standards for the quick deployment of service providers.
According to Xabier Arrieta, Izenpe's CEO, “Enhancing the user experience and making use of Web technologies widely extended across the development community were objectives of Giltza". Xabier adds, “Safelayer gives us a competitive advantage through the quick deployment of new and modern ID services aimed initially at the EU market".
The strengths of the new version of Safelayer's trust service platform include i) providing support for current identity-federation (OAuth, OpenIDConnect and SAML) and e-signature (ETSI *AdES) standards, ii) providing a framework for managing NIST-based assurance levels and the EU's new eIDAS regulation, and iii) being designed for managing identification and signing in mobile devices and extending the use of the signature to the Cloud.
