In the XII International Conference on Artificial Intelligence & Law (ICAIL 2009), Safelayer took part in the Workshop on Privacy and Protection in Web-based Social Networks with its article "A semantic approach to security in social networks" (PDF).
The workshop, organized by the Distributed Multimedia Applications Group of the Technical University of Catalonia, brought together legal and technical experts to debate how user privacy is currently being protected in social networks and collaborative applications, and how it can be improved using the Semantic Web and digital-rights management tools in the context of the legal framework.
Safelayer's proposal entails a Semantic Interoperability and Access Control Layer that completely separates user data from the collaborative networks and applications. By using Semantic Web standards to implement this layer, it is possible to centralize privacy policies so that users can control and manage their privacy in a simple and efficient manner.
