Paraguay adopts Safelayer's PKI technology for root certification authority
- Tuesday, 02 October 2012
Safelayer Secure Communications, a leader in the security and trust market for information and communication technologies, provides its digital certification solutions for Paraguay's public key infrastructure (PKI).
Paraguay's Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) set up the country's e-signature root certification authority. The certification ceremony was held last August before public and private authorities and the Chief Notary to Government, who certified that the generation and installation of the keys of the certification authority was performed in compliance with the established protocols.
The PKI technology infrastructure of the root certification authority was implemented by the companies PS LINE and ISA Ltda, the latter a Safelayer partner. This milestone, in which the MIC assumes the role as the first certification authority in the chain of trust for managing the digital certificates for Paraguay's e-signature, is a fundamental step in the development of e-commerce between MERCOSUR countries and the EU.
According to ISA engineer Leonardo Noach, "the 7th of August 2012 was a very important milestone for Paraguay's e-government strategy as the root certification authority infrastructure will provide leverage for multiple projects based on the use of digital certificates that will result in benefits such as the streamlining of administrative tasks, the consolidation of information and the improvement in services for individuals and companies in their dealings with public organizations". Noach adds: "The project was implemented according to the original time frame and deadlines. This was owing not only to the capabilities of the team that implemented the solution, the quality of the Safelayer products and Safelayer's vast experience in similar projects, but also to the coordinated participation of the rest of the parties involved, including the Ministry itself, Brazil's National Education and Research Network (coordinator of the project funded by the EU), and the EU offices in the region.
Safelayer's PKI technology includes infrastructure solutions for e-identifiers based on digital certificates. It has been used in numerous implementations for government and for certification service providers. E-signature solutions complement Safelayer's portfolio, which is one of the most complete in security technology for deploying e-services.
Safelayer strengthens its presence in LATAM with this new project in Paraguay. Safelayer products have been used in projects including the Chamber of Commerce of Colombia's Digital Certification Corporation (Certicámara), Uruguay's National Postal Administration, Uruguay's top level certification authority and the PKI for the Panama Maritime Authority.
